A portable solution that allows healthcare providers to use tablets as medical carts to perform diagnostic tasks and communicate with colleagues on the go increase their mobility and flexibility and reduce the cost of hardware.

Challenges

  • In healthcare facilities like hospitals and clinics, Wi-Fi signal strength varies by location, which can disrupt virtual consultations. Ensuring stable connectivity is critical for uninterrupted patient care.

     

  • Healthcare providers frequently use tablets away from charging stations. A sudden drop in battery life during key tasks like virtual consultations can cause delays, potentially affecting patient care quality.
  • In fast-paced healthcare environments, providers must remain accessible, especially for urgent calls. If a device is low on battery or occupied with another task, important calls can be missed, leading to delays in patient care.
  • Scheduling and coordinating virtual consultations between providers and patients is time-consuming, especially when dealing with multiple sessions or consultations.

Design Solutions

  • The app was designed with an integrated Wi-Fi strength monitoring system. When signals weaken, the system immediately alerts users to move or switch networks, reducing consultation interruptions. This helps improve consultation completion times and ensures critical data transmission is not compromised.

  •  The app includes battery charge management that continuously monitors charge levels, sending alerts when the battery is low. Additional design decisions like screen dimming and limiting background processes were implemented to extend battery life in critical moments.

  • Readiness monitoring feature checks battery, availability, and system status to ensure the device is always ready for incoming calls. Visual and auditory alerts notify users if the device isn’t ready. This helps prevent missed critical calls, enabling quicker response times in urgent situations.

  • The app integrates with existing hospital communication systems and automatically sends invitations to providers via virtual consultation room creation feature. This has shortened consultation setup time, enhancing efficiency and allowing more time for patient care.

QR Code Registration

Challenge

Manual device registration for mobile medical carts is time-consuming for hospital staff, often leading to device misconfigurations or tracking errors.

Design Solution

We integrated a QR code-based registration system that allows nurses and doctors to quickly and accurately register devices. This feature has improved registration accuracy and reduced setup time focus more on patient care rather than administrative tasks. 

Shared Collaborative Experiences

Challenge

Patients may arrive at and request care and become connected to patients who do not speak a shared language. 

Design Solution

Integrating realtime captions and translations allows fundamental basic communication between parties without delaying time to care.
